Vaping Crackdown in Malaysia: New Law Bans Sales to Minors Starting October 1
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — If you sell vape products or e-cigarettes, take note: beginning October 1, selling to anyone under 18 is a crime in Malaysia, punishable by fines or jail time.
Here’s what you need to know about the new Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024:
1. No Sales to Minors: Selling any smoking products (cigarettes, vapes, etc.) to those under 18 will lead to fines or imprisonment.
2. Minors at Risk: Children caught buying or using these products could face fines up to RM500 or community service.
3. Smoking in Non-Smoking Areas: Violators could face fines of up to RM5,000 for smoking in designated non-smoking areas.
4. Strict Advertising Rules: Promoting smoking products improperly can lead to hefty fines (up to RM30,000) and possible jail time.
5. Mandatory Registration: Sellers must register smoking products within six months of October 1 or face penalties.
6. Why This Matters: The law addresses gaps in previous regulations, specifically targeting vape products and ensuring public health safety.
This comprehensive law marks a significant step in regulating vaping and protecting minors from its dangers.
