Fugitive Singapore Lawyer Charles Yeo Faces Bail Setback Ahead of May 2025 UK Extradition Hearing
"Charles Yeo Faces Bail Delay Ahead of May 2025 UK Extradition Hearing"
LONDON, Dec 4 — Fugitive Singaporean lawyer Charles Yeo’s extradition hearing will take place in May 2025, following an initial court appearance in London yesterday.
Yeo, 34, appeared at Westminster Magistrate’s Court, where he confirmed his name and date of birth. The UK Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that Singapore seeks his extradition on charges related to abetting cheating, specifically involving the release of funds to his law firm as part of a settlement between July 2020 and November 2020.
Arrested on November 4, Yeo has been in custody ever since. Although he was granted £75,000 bail in November, his release has been delayed over complications verifying whether his UK passport was held by authorities. Yeo’s legal team also attempted to cancel the passport via the Singapore High Commission in London, but they had yet to receive confirmation by yesterday’s hearing.
The judge indicated that bail would be granted once confirmation of the passport cancellation is received. Another hearing is set for December 10, where Yeo’s team hopes to resolve the matter. If granted bail, Yeo will be subject to electronic monitoring, a strict curfew, and regular reporting to the police station while awaiting the full extradition hearing.
