UN Overwhelmingly Backs Gaza Ceasefire

The UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly passed a resolution demanding an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution, supported by 158 nations, also calls for the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas.

The US and Israel, however, rejected the resolution. The US has consistently vetoed similar resolutions in the Security Council, citing concerns about Hamas's refusal to release hostages.

Despite the US and Israeli opposition, the UN General Assembly's strong vote underscores the international community's growing concern over the ongoing conflict and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The resolution also calls for increased humanitarian aid and accountability for war crimes.
