KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak testified today in his 1MDB trial that Saudi King Salman never disputed his claim of receiving donations from the late King Abdullah. Najib said during a 2017 visit to Malaysia, King Salman did not address the donation, even in private conversations or during a car ride when they took a selfie together.
He added that the Saudi royal family and government had never publicly denied the donation claim or approached him to challenge it, either while he was in office or after leaving. Najib emphasized that King Salman’s actions, including allowing him to visit the Kaaba and Prophet Muhammad’s tomb—an unprecedented honor—suggested no displeasure with him. He also pointed out that King Salman’s visit to Malaysia and the Saudi investment in Pengerang were further evidence of strong ties between the two nations.
Despite the global media coverage of 1MDB in 2017, Najib insisted that Saudi authorities had not raised any official objections regarding the donations.
