Starting January 1, 2025, nine countries—Belarus, Bolivia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Cuba, Malaysia, Uganda, and Uzbekistan—will officially join BRICS as partner nations, according to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov.
During the Kazan summit, BRICS received 35 applications from various countries expressing interest in joining or partnering. As a result, the BRICS group introduced a new "partner country" category and has extended invitations to 13 nations, with nine confirming their readiness to join. Ushakov also noted that BRICS remains open to further expansion, with responses expected soon from four other countries.
