Fire Extinguisher Fraud Syndicate Busted in Perak, RM89,000 in Losses Across Six Cases

KUALA LUMPUR — Police have dismantled a fraud syndicate offering fake fire extinguisher maintenance services in Perak, arresting 10 individuals in a series of raids.

Acting Perak police chief Deputy Commissioner Zulkafli Sariaat said the arrests, made between January 1 and 5 in Bagan Datuk and Cheras, led to the exposure of the scam. The suspects, aged 21 to 35, had been offering fire extinguisher checks for RM100 each, but their inspection stickers were fake and not registered in the Fire and Rescue Department’s system.

The raids solved at least six cases involving RM89,000 in losses, with victims from Bagan Datuk and Kampar districts. The syndicate targeted businesses across Perak, Kuala Lumpur, and Penang. Police seized 89 fire extinguishers, fake eFEiS stickers, mobile phones, and cars during the operation.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
