Johor’s Healthcare and Medical Tourism Sector Set to Drive Economic Growth, Say Officials Amid Rising Global Investment Interest
BATU PAHAT — Johor’s healthcare and medical tourism industries are poised to become major economic drivers, with strong international interest in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), state officials say.
Ling Tian Soon, Johor’s State Health and Environment Committee chairman, revealed that several foreign investors have shown interest in developing hospitals and pharmacies within the zone. He highlighted the potential for the JS-SEZ to become a medical tourism hub, attracting investment from countries including China, South Korea, Japan, the UAE, and Qatar.
Ling also noted that while private healthcare facilities will be developed by foreign investors, the state and federal governments are committed to enhancing the region’s healthcare infrastructure, with plans for two new government hospitals: Hospital Pasir Gudang and Hospital Sultanah Aminah 2.
Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi added that the JS-SEZ agreement, signed on January 7, marks the start of a new era of rapid development in Johor, with an influx of high-impact investments across various sectors.
