LOS ANGELES — Olympic legend Gary Hall Jr. will receive replacement medals after his Olympic honors were destroyed in the recent Los Angeles wildfires. Forced to evacuate his Pacific Palisades home, Hall fled with only his dog, his diabetes medication, a family painting, and a religious artifact, unable to retrieve his five gold, three silver, and two bronze medals from his storied career.
In a tweet, International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach expressed solidarity with Los Angeles residents and praised the efforts of firefighters. He confirmed that Hall would be provided with replica medals to replace those lost in the blaze, adding that the IOC is focused on supporting those affected by the fires.
