LONDON — Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca voiced concern over his team’s reaction to conceding in a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, extending their winless Premier League run to five games.
Despite dominating the first half, with Cole Palmer scoring his 14th goal of the season, Chelsea could not build on their lead. Bournemouth came back strong in the second half, leveling through Justin Kluivert’s penalty and going ahead with an Antoine Semenyo strike.
Chelsea captain Reece James salvaged a point with a stoppage-time free-kick, but Maresca lamented the team’s drop in play after conceding. “We lost control of the game after the goal. We need to improve," he said.
James, sidelined by injuries for much of the season, reflected on missed chances, adding, “We should have finished the game off earlier.” Chelsea’s draw leaves them vulnerable to dropping out of the top four if Newcastle win against Wolves today.
