The Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) imposed RM415.5 million in fines on five major chicken producers last year for cartel activities, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. Additionally, 15 companies were fined RM1.5 million for involvement in bid-rigging. MyCC has also issued proposed decisions against 92 companies and a final decision against seven others for bid-rigging cartels. Investigations are ongoing into over 500 companies linked to government tenders worth RM2.3 billion. To enhance MyCC’s efforts, the government has allocated RM27 million in Budget 2025, the highest funding since its establishment. Armizan added that a symposium on competition law was held to address market distortions, including bid-rigging, food price hikes, and digital economy dominance.
