Malaysia Hosts China’s First CNY Celebration Abroad, Strengthening Bilateral Ties
KUALA LUMPUR — A stunning drone light show resembling a snake in the sky marked the start of Malaysia and China’s Chinese New Year celebration last night, symbolizing the Year of the Snake. This event also marked China’s first-ever overseas Chinese New Year celebration.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, speaking at the event with China’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Sun Yeli, quoted poet Lu You from the Song Dynasty to reflect the deepening friendship between the two nations. Anwar highlighted that Malaysia and China are embracing a future of strong partnership, celebrating their golden jubilee of diplomatic relations.
Anwar also praised Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing for breaking tourism arrival records and emphasized the importance of mutual understanding in international relations, referencing his conversation with China’s Premier Xi Jinping.
The Prime Minister underlined Malaysia’s inclusive spirit, stressing the need for participation from all communities to maintain peace and unity. He also reiterated the importance of Malaysia’s engagement with countries like the US, EU, and Gulf states to maintain its central role in global diplomacy.
