Bukit Aman CID Calls for Law Overhaul to Tackle Evolving Tech-Driven Crimes
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 — The Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is pushing for an overhaul of outdated crime prevention laws to better address modern, tech-influenced crimes.
CID director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain highlighted the need for updates to laws related to gambling, prostitution, and vehicle theft, noting that current punishments are too lenient or irrelevant given how these crimes have evolved.
For example, prostitution syndicates now operate via online bookings and payments, making it difficult to identify victims and make arrests. Meanwhile, vehicle theft has become increasingly sophisticated, with stolen cars being shipped overseas and sold to organized crime groups.
Mohd Shuhaily also called for stricter regulations on gambling, which is often regulated inconsistently across states. He expressed hope that proposed amendments to the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA) would be approved to better tackle serious crimes.
