DOSH Blames Lack of Safety Procedures for Mechanic Assistant's Fatality at Kelantan Quarry

KOTA BHARU, Jan 28 — The Kelantan Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) has determined that the absence of safe work procedures led to the tragic death of a mechanic assistant at a quarry in Mukim Jerus, Selising, last Friday.

DOSH Director Abdul Aziz Salim revealed that no safety protocols were in place for the Crushing Plant machinery. As a result, the department issued a prohibition on the quarry’s machine dismantling activities.

Both the company’s management and workers have been called for further statements as investigations continue. Legal action may be pursued if violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 are found, with penalties of up to RM500,000 for employers.

Abdul Aziz emphasized that DOSH takes workplace safety seriously, urging employers to be more vigilant in ensuring proper safety measures are in place. The mechanic assistant was reportedly crushed by a rubber counterweight from a conveyor machine during the incident.
