KUALA LUMPUR — A man was arrested for failing to attend court to face charges over posting false content on social media that implicated the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Conference of Rulers.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Police, arrested the individual in Kuala Lumpur at 11pm yesterday after an arrest warrant was issued by a Sepang Sessions Court judge. The suspect had missed a court appearance on February 24.
The individual will be charged under Section 233 (1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a fine of up to RM50,000 or one year in prison, or both. The offence was allegedly committed via Facebook.
