KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang stated that some nurses leave government service due to being placed outside their home states, especially those from Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah, and Sarawak. He explained that nurse placements are based on state needs, causing shortages in areas like Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, and Selangor. Over the past five years, 1,754 nurses left, with 27.98% citing personal reasons. As of December 31, 88% of nursing positions were filled, with 70,229 nurses serving, 69,114 of them permanently. Last year, 582 nurses resigned.
