MADRID: Amazon announced it will use artificial intelligence (AI) to reduce flood risks in Spain's Aragon region, where it is building data centers. AWS, Amazon's cloud unit, plans to invest €17.2 million to modernize infrastructure and optimize agricultural water use to mitigate flooding. This comes after catastrophic floods in Valencia and as the region, traversed by Spain's highest-flow river, the Ebro, is prone to floods. The AI-powered system will monitor weather, water flow, and provide flood warnings to emergency services in Zaragoza, which is also building flood defenses at Barranco de la Muerte following 2023's floods.
