A Singaporean woman, Lee Lihong, claimed she was extorted by a Malaysian immigration officer at the Johor Bahru checkpoint on February 23. The officer allegedly demanded RM200 for a torn page in her passport, which she insists wasn’t damaged before. After negotiating, the officer agreed to reduce the fee to RM100. Worried about further issues when returning, she was reassured by the officer, and passed through immigration smoothly that night. Lee’s passport, renewed two years ago, had a small tear on two pages. The Johor Immigration Department has not responded to inquiries.
