PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has welcomed the Republic of Maldives' decision to bar individuals with Israeli passports, calling it a firm response to the Gaza atrocities.Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim praised the Maldives' action, saying it deserves global respect for defending human rights and standing with Palestinians."We are following this development with great interest and we support the firm position expressed. The Maldives' current stand on Palestine, and its very brave decision to bar those carrying Israeli passports from entering the country, are commendable."Since the time of our independence, Malaysia has taken a consistent position — not granting recognition — primarily due to Israel's refusal to respect human rights, honour international commitments, and end the genocide in Palestine, particularly in Gaza."We share the same sentiments and aspirations. On behalf of the government and the people of Malaysia, I would like to express our deep respect and admiration for the Maldives' courageous and principled stance," he said.
Anwar made these remarks during a joint press conference with Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu here today.
