Following the suspension of InDrive and Maxim for regulatory breaches, the Malaysian P-Hailing Riders Association (Penghantar) urges the government to balance public safety with the gig economy's growth when creating new regulations. Penghantar stresses the need to involve all stakeholders and suggests the proposed Malaysian Gig Economy Commission (SEGiM) could ensure fair legislation. They want laws tailored to the gig economy that address real issues without burdening operators. Penghantar welcomed the clarity from the Transport Minister's announcement but raised concerns about PSV license holders allegedly letting foreign nationals use their accounts, especially in Sabah, calling for stricter enforcement against such "Ali Baba" arrangements due to safety risks and reduced earnings for local drivers.
