MUKAH — A raging fire at a sago plantation in Sebakong, Mukah, has entered its second day, with strong winds fueling the blaze that has now spread across 300 hectares.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said nearby Kampung Sitieng, about 5km away, remains safe, though villagers are urged to stay alert.
The fire, which began on May 9, initially affected 12 hectares between plantation sectors C25 and C26. Crews from the Mukah fire station have been using hoses, a floating pump, and nearby ditches to contain the fire, but worsening winds forced a pause in operations yesterday evening.
Bomba continues to monitor the situation and has called on the plantation’s management for ongoing assistance.
