BUKIT MERTAJAM — Three Nepalese workers suffered burns after a fire broke out at a paint and solvent warehouse in Jalan Permatang Tinggi, Simpang Ampat. The blaze, which also affected an adjacent scrap materials warehouse, sent thick black smoke over Penang, visible even from the island.
Penang Fire and Rescue said the injured men, all in their 30s, were treated at a private clinic before firefighters arrived. Around 70% of the paint warehouse and 15% of the scrap facility were damaged, with a lorry also destroyed. The fire was fully extinguished by 4.27pm, and investigations are underway.
