KUCHING — Sarawak plans to convert over 5,000km of disused logging roads, including wooden bridges, into village routes to improve rural connectivity and development.

Deputy Minister Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said 2,004km of these roads are no longer in use, and the government is working to take over 188km of former logging roads to register them officially for maintenance funding.

This move aims to enhance infrastructure and reduce the development gap between urban and interior areas by reclassifying these roads under the state or village road systems.
