Oldest Cannes Palme d’Or winner Hamina dies at 95

Mohammed Lakhdar Hamina, the first Arab and African filmmaker to win the Palme d’Or, has died at 95. He won the top Cannes prize in 1975 for Chronicle of the Years of Fire, a drama on Algeria’s fight for independence. Hamina, who competed at Cannes four times, died at his home in Algiers.
