Japan plans to slash reserve rice prices to ¥2,000 per 5kg and speed up store deliveries to ease soaring costs caused by heatwave damage and tourist demand. The government will release 300,000 tons of stockpiled rice and cover transport costs to lower prices by early June. Further releases may follow, as PM Ishiba’s administration battles low approval ahead of July elections.
