French surgeon Joel Le Scouarnec, 74, was sentenced to 20 years for sexually abusing 299 patients, mostly children, between 1989-2014. Despite his admission of guilt, victims expressed disappointment with the verdict, calling it too lenient. Le Scouarnec was already in prison for prior child abuse charges. He was also banned from practicing medicine and contacting minors. His abuse was documented, and he admitted to being a "paedophile" in his notes. Victims have criticized the case for exposing systemic failures in preventing such crimes.
