UMNO leader says political parties have the right to pressure Cabinet appointments, but the final decision rests with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. UMNO’s Ahmad Maslan stated that while ministers can request posts, appointing the Cabinet is the PM’s prerogative.Following Tengu Jefrul Azis’s resignation, UMNO leader Ahmad Zahid Hamidi urged the PM to ensure the party retains its seven ministerial seats. With only six UMNO ministers now, Zahid said the party has the right to request a new ministerial position.Ahmad’s remarks also responded to Anwar’s view that no urgent Cabinet reshuffle is needed despite two ministers Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi resigning after losing in PKR polls. Rafizi lost his PKR deputy presidency to Anwar’s daughter Nurul Izzah, while Nik Nazmi failed to secure a deputy chief post.DAP’s secretary-general Lok Siew Fook added that with PKR’s leaders on leave, the two vacant Cabinet posts remain unfilled for now.
