TOKYO — Four Japan Self-Defense Forces personnel were injured in an explosion while cleaning rusted items at a storage facility for unexploded ordnance at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa. The blast occurred during inspection work, but none of the injuries are life-threatening. The base, heavily used by US forces, sits on Okinawa — a region with a long military history and home to the bulk of US troops in Japan.
