NICE — French President Emmanuel Macron has called on Israel to swiftly release 12 activists, including climate activist Greta Thunberg, after their Gaza-bound boat, the Madleen, was intercepted by Israeli forces.
The seizure sparked mass protests across Europe. In France, rallies were held in Paris and at least five other cities, with left-wing leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon calling the act “international piracy.” In Switzerland, protesters blocked train stations in Geneva and Lausanne, causing delays.
Macron demanded that six French nationals on board be returned immediately and condemned the Gaza blockade as a “scandal” and “disgrace.” Israel confirmed all passengers were safe and expected to repatriate them.
