Manchester City have secured the signing of French international Rayan Cherki from Lyon just before the Club World Cup registration deadline. The 21-year-old joined for €36.5 million (£30.3 million) plus €6 million in add-ons.
Cherki, a product of Lyon’s youth academy and their youngest-ever scorer, expressed excitement about joining City and working under Pep Guardiola. He scored 29 goals in 185 appearances for Lyon and recently made his senior France debut, scoring and assisting in a Nations League semi-final.Cherki follows Rayan Ait-Nouri in joining City ahead of their Club World Cup campaign, with midfielder Tijjani Reijnders expected to sign soon. City face Wydad AC, Al Ain, and Juventus in the group stage starting June 14. City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, praised Cherki’s potential to become a world-class player under Guardiola’s guidance.
