SETIU: The clothes and study materials belonging to the late Anis Soffiya, who was one of the victims in the Gerik bus crash, will be given to her friends in need, either for use or as keepsakes, her mother said.

Che Nor Aida Suhana Mat, 45, said the decision was not made out of grief or an inability to bear seeing her daughter's belongings, but rather to ensure they did not go to waste.

"Not everything will be given away. We're only selecting items that are still usable, such as clothes that fit and can still be worn. Those no longer suitable will be donated to those in need, including children, the poor and the underprivileged.

"To any of her friends who may need these items, please feel free to take them, I give my full blessing. If we just leave them in the cupboard, they'll eventually deteriorate.

"Books and other reference materials are also available to be taken," she said when contacted today.

Che Nor Aida, a kindergarten teacher with Yayasan Islam Terengganu in Putera Jaya, said she had also informed Anis Soffiya's friends of her intentions early Monday morning.

She added that when her own parents passed away a few years ago, she had also donated their belongings, especially clothing, to those in need.

"Rather than keeping them unused, it is better to give them away as charity, with the intention of doing so on behalf of the deceased, where it would become a source of pahala (reward) for them," she said.

Earlier today, at 9am, a representative from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) visited her home in Kampung Rahmat Felda Chalok to return Anis Soffiya's personal items.

She said the returned belongings included boxes, luggage, shoes, a helmet, pillows and food supplies.

"I haven't opened everything yet, but I believe most of them are clothes, books and reference materials," she said.

Che Nor Aida expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the university's management for returning the belongings of all the students involved in the tragic accident.
