KUANTAN: A man with a disability who was reported missing while bathing in Sungai Kuantan near Tanah Putih here yesterday was found drowned last night.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Zulfadli Zakaria said the body of Syed Alwi Syed Mohd Ali Hanafiah, 30, was discovered by villagers at around 9.10pm.

He said the body was found floating beneath a tree about 2.5km from where the victim was last seen.

"The fire and rescue team later retrieved the body using a rescue boat before handing it over to the police for further action," he said.

In the 3pm incident yesterday, the victim and his 25-year-old younger brother had gone to Sungai Kuantan to fish before Syed Alwi decided to take a dip.

The victim, from Tanah Putih, was reported to have struggled in the water before disappearing and being swept away by the river current.
