The death toll from the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad has risen to 279, making it one of the deadliest air disasters of the 21st century. The Boeing 787, bound for London, crashed into a residential area shortly after takeoff, killing nearly all 242 onboard and 38 people on the ground. Only one passenger survived.
