The recent Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, which killed 270 people including 241 passengers and some on the ground, has sparked global concerns over flight safety. The total insurance payout from the tragedy is estimated at around ₹4,000 crore, making it one of the largest claims in India, according to General Insurance Corporation (GIC) Chairman Ramasamy Narayanan. Air India had insurance coverage with GIC, including \$125 million for the aircraft and its components and \$350 million for passenger compensation. Experts believe this large claim could impact global aviation insurance rates and increase the premium and coverage for Indian airlines in the future. Foreign nationals were also among the victims, and their compensation amounts may differ based on their home countries. When asked about the insurance payout, an Air India spokesperson declined to comment. The plane, en route from Ahmedabad to London, crashed into a medical college building on June 12, further adding to the death toll and insurance liabilities.
