WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump has given himself two weeks to decide whether to support Israel’s strikes on Iran, citing a “substantial chance” for diplomatic talks to end the conflict.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump is keeping military action on hold to explore negotiations, while stressing that the president won’t hesitate to act if needed. She warned that Iran could produce a nuclear weapon within weeks if its supreme leader gives the order — a claim Iran denies.
Trump claimed Iranian officials had requested talks at the White House, but Tehran has denied this. Although communication between the two countries continues, no US envoy will join today’s diplomatic meetings in Geneva.
Trump’s decision comes amid ongoing national security briefings, with the president weighing whether to use the US’s unique military capabilities, including bunker-buster bombs, against Iran’s nuclear facilities. The White House urged Americans to “trust” Trump’s judgment, even as some MAGA-aligned figures voice strong opposition to war.
