Fleetwood surged with two eagles and a birdie over his final six holes to card a 65, tying his season-low round. Still chasing his first PGA Tour win, the Englishman called the back-nine burst a “big bonus.”

Thomas fired a 64, highlighted by five straight birdies on the back nine, while Scheffler, despite a double bogey on 17, shot 69 and remains in contention.

Jason Day sits one stroke behind in fourth after a 66, and Americans Denny McCarthy and Austin Eckroat are tied for fifth at 133.

Rory McIlroy struggled early but recovered for a 71 and sits at 135 heading into the weekend, which promises an exciting finish with tight scores and challenging winds.
