Former Olympian Goh Liu Ying has advised Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, to maintain open communication with their coaches to resolve any on-court tension.
Goh emphasized the importance of discussing strategies and goals not only between partners but also with coaches, as conflicting tactics are common in doubles play. “It’s normal to disagree. Coaches play a key role in guiding both players toward the same goal,” she said.
Earlier this year, BAM temporarily split the pair due to tension, testing new combinations at the 2025 Taiwan Open. However, they reunited for the 2025 Sudirman Cup after mutual agreement and team discussions, successfully helping Malaysia reach the quarter-finals.
Recalling her own experience, Goh shared that she and former partner Chan Peng Soon also faced conflicts during their career, including their run to the 2016 Rio Olympic silver medal. “All pairs quarrel, but it’s because both want to win,” she added.
