Mixed doubles duo Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai are eagerly awaiting the Road to Gold programme’s new training centre—and they’ve made it clear what they need: premium court flooring and an effective cooling system. Currently based at the Pioneer Badminton Centre in Endah Parade, they’ve spent over three years on rubber courts with only fans for ventilation.

They argue that high-quality surfaces will lessen injury risk in this high-impact sport, and better air conditioning would boost endurance and extend training sessions. Preferably, the facility would be a private venue in Kuala Lumpur, ensuring unrestricted court access.

Ranked world No. 6, Soon Huat and Shevon head next to the Japan Open (July 15–20) and China Open (July 22–27).
