Dutch tennis player Tim van Rijthoven has announced his retirement at 28 after failing to recover from a persistent elbow injury.

Van Rijthoven, who reached a career-high world No. 101 in 2022, famously beat Daniil Medvedev to win his first ATP title at ’s-Hertogenbosch and later reached Wimbledon’s fourth round, where he faced Novak Djokovic on Centre Court.

“Despite all rehab and medical efforts, my elbow isn’t healing,” he wrote on social media. “Beating Medvedev at home and playing Djokovic at Wimbledon are moments I’ll always cherish.”
