Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal with Brazil’s Botafogo to sign Argentina international Thiago Almada, pending a medical and contract signing, the club announced.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder, part of Argentina’s 2022 World Cup-winning squad and the 2024 Paris Olympics team, spent the latter half of last season on loan at Lyon, scoring twice and providing five assists in 20 games.
A product of Vélez Sarsfield, Almada moved to Atlanta United in 2022, earning MLS Rookie of the Year, before joining Botafogo, where he won the Brazilian league and Copa Libertadores.
