KUALA LUMPUR: Chen Tang Jie Toh Ee Wei’s Japan Open semi final run ended after losing the net battle against China’s Jiang Zhen Bang Wei Ya Xin.
The Malaysian world No. 4 pair struggled as Ya Xin dominated the front court, sealing a 21-12, 21-16 win in just 38 minutes their third loss to the Chinese duo in four meetings.
National coaching director Rexy Mainaky cited Ee Wei’s slow follow-up at the net and Tang Jie’s unforced errors as key reasons for the defeat. Despite improved chemistry since reuniting after a March split, their competitive sharpness has dipped.
They will aim for a stronger comeback at the China Open next week.
