The Transport Ministry plans to introduce basic language and driver etiquette training for taxi drivers ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026). Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook emphasized this is crucial as taxis often provide tourists' first impression of the country.

The government has also increased its contribution incentive to the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) from 10% to 30% to improve taxi drivers' welfare. Loke, who recently met with industry players, stated that ongoing reforms and close collaboration with stakeholders like the Malaysia Taxi, Rental Car, Limousine and Airport Taxi Association (GTSM) are key to strengthening the public transport sector.
