PAS Information Chief Urged to Apologize for Mocking Ceasefire Efforts
PAS Information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has been urged to issue a public apology to Thailand and Cambodia for allegedly mocking Malaysia's diplomatic efforts in brokering a ceasefire between the two nations.
Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, political secretary to the Finance Minister and Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief, condemned the Pasir Mas MP's actions as "unpatriotic and an embarrassment" to Malaysia. He highlighted that while the world, including the US and China, acknowledged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership in promoting regional peace, Fadhli responded with cynicism.
Muhammad Kamil stressed that the peace initiative between Thailand and Cambodia transcends party politics and reflects Malaysia's honor as a respected regional leader. He criticized the opposition for sowing hatred despite never achieving a diplomatic breakthrough of this scale during their time in power.
Earlier, Fadhli had posted a sarcastic image on social media depicting animals fighting over a banana with a monkey mediating, captioned: "The goat and sheep shouldn’t need a monkey to mediate a dispute over a banana." This post came after Prime Minister Anwar announced yesterday that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire following a special meeting in Putrajaya.
