Moderate Air Quality Across Sarawak
KUCHING, Sarawak – The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) reported moderate air quality across all 18 monitoring stations in Sarawak this morning.
As of 8 AM, Lundu recorded the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) at 88, an increase from 79 yesterday afternoon. Conversely, Lubok Antu registered the lowest API at 52, up from 45.
Other key areas saw varied changes: Sibu's API rose to 75 from 63, Miri remained at 68, and Kuching's reading held steady at 74.
NREB utilizes Air Quality Monitoring Stations (AQMS) in select areas (Lundu, Tebedu, Lubok Antu, Lawas, Bario), while the remaining 13 stations use the Department of Environment's (DoE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
An API of 51-100 is classified as moderate, indicating no adverse health effects. Readings of 0-50 are considered good. Higher readings (101-200 unhealthy, 201-300 very unhealthy, >300 hazardous) indicate increasing health risks, particularly for vulnerable individuals.
