Thailand and Cambodia Agree to Ceasefire

Putrajaya, Malaysia – A significant breakthrough in the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia was achieved yesterday in Putrajaya, with both nations agreeing to a ceasefire effective midnight Monday. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet lauded the agreement as a "brilliant result" and extended his gratitude to Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for initiating and hosting the peace talks.

The meeting, which marked the first encounter between Prime Minister Manet and Thai acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai since tensions escalated on July 24, aims to reduce hostilities and restore stability to the border regions. Manet expressed optimism that the ceasefire would build mutual trust and pave the way for a return to normalcy. He also acknowledged the support of U.S. President Donald Trump and the Chinese government in these peace efforts.

The conflict, which erupted last Thursday, has tragically resulted in 13 deaths, including both soldiers and civilians, and displaced over 80,000 people. This agreement represents a crucial step towards de-escalation after the recent diplomatic crisis.
