A powerful 8.8 magnitude earthquake off Russia triggered tsunamis in parts of Russia's Far East and Japan, with waves over 3 metres reported. Russia evacuated 2,000 residents in Severo-Kurilsk, and minor injuries were reported. Japan issued urgent evacuation alerts, with waves reaching Hokkaido and warnings extended along much of its coast. The quake, strongest since 1952 in the Kamchatka region, was followed by several aftershocks. Tsunami warnings were also issued across the Pacific, including the U.S. West Coast, Philippines, and other countries, prompting evacuations and service disruptions.
