PAPAR: A man was injured while four others escaped unhurt in a five-vehicle accident along the Pan Borneo Highway near Kampung Kawang this afternoon.
The collision involved a trailer lorry, three pick-up trucks and a car.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Asrin Ag Piut said a team of eight firefighters from the Papar Fire and Rescue Station was deployed to the scene after the department was alerted at about 4pm.
He said the injured victim was a 23-year-old car driver, while the drivers of the four other vehicles, aged between 21 and 38, were unharmed.
"The injured victim was given initial medical assessment by the Fire and Rescue emergency medical team but refused to be sent to the hospital for further treatment," he said in a statement.
Asrin added that firefighters also carried out a safety inspection at the crash site to ensure there were no further hazards.
The operation, which began at 4.30pm, was declared over at 4.50pm.
