KUALA LUMPUR: Heavyweights Johor are not taking anything for granted heading into their Agong's Cup clash with Armed Forces on Saturday (Sept 13).

Johor reaffirmed their status as serious contenders after opening their campaign with a 122-17 hammering of Pahang (pool B) in Mount Austin last week.

Johor head coach Rodney So'oialo is expecting a tough fight when they host Armed Forces this week.

"Armed Forces are a great team and always have been," said So'oialo recently.

"They train on a daily basis which has been a huge advantage for them.

"We just have to remain focused on our plan and try to shore up any weaknesses we have."

The other pool B match on Saturday will see fellow contenders Terengganu travelling to Gambang to play Pahang.

In pool A, Perlis will be looking to consolidate after upsetting four-time champions Kelantan 41-30 in Kangar last week when they play Selangor in Petaling Jaya on Saturday.

Perlis coach Hafiz Zainon is aware of the threat posed by Selangor who have strengthened their squad with both expatriate and foreign professional players this season.

"Selangor are a good team and we cannot afford to take them lightly if we want to win," said Hafiz.

"Preparation is key. We have to have strong teamwork.

"If we are able to execute our plan well, we should be able to get a positive result."

Selangor had beaten Kedah 46-3 in Mergong last week.

The other pool A match this week will see defending champions Royal Malaysian Police opening their campaign against Kedah. The match will be played at Pulapol Kuala Lumpur.
