Kenya’s Faith Cherotich produced a stunning final-lap comeback to win the women’s 3,000m steeplechase gold at the World Championships in Tokyo, clocking a championship-record 8:51.59. The 21-year-old powered past defending champion Winfred Yavi after a dramatic stumble at the final back-straight hurdle and flew over the last water jump to seal her first world title. Already an Olympic and world bronze medallist, Cherotich’s triumph marks her arrival as the new queen of the steeplechase.
