Australia has detected khapra beetle larvae in imported nappies, triggering serious biosecurity concerns. The highly destructive pest, discovered in Woolworths’ Little One’s Ultra Dry Nappy Pants, poses a grave threat to the country’s A$18 billion grains industry. Native to India, the beetle infests stored food and is considered Australia’s most dangerous agricultural pest. Authorities are working with the importer and Belgian manufacturer Ontex to contain the threat. Woolworths has pulled the affected nappies from shelves. Farm groups warn the beetle could cause export bans and losses on par with a foot-and-mouth outbreak. Consumers are urged to report and isolate affected products.
