KOTA KINABALU — Eleven luxury vehicles of various brands, including Bentley Continental, Lexus, Range Rover, Mercedes Benz, Ford Mustang and BMW, were subjected to action under a special operation called ‘Ops Luxury’.

The operation, carried out by the Sabah Road Transport Department (JPJ), has been conducted from June to September.

Sabah JPJ director Datuk Mohd Harris Ali said the operation focused on luxury car owners who failed to renew their Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) and did not possess valid insurance coverage.

“Actions taken included issuing summonses and seizing vehicles under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“The seizures were made to prevent repeated offences,” he said in a statement here today.Mohd Harris said seven of the vehicles were seized in Kota Kinabalu, two in Tawau, one in Sandakan and another in Beaufort.

He reminded vehicle owners in Sabah to ensure that their LKM and insurance documents are always valid to avoid legal action, as well as to guarantee protection in case of accidents.

“Sabah JPJ will continue enforcement to ensure all road users comply with the rules. Drive carefully, arrive safely,” he said.
